I recently returned from a fabulous art retreat, Art Is You
in Petaluma, CA. I don’t get to go to a
lot of retreats, due to expenses involved and usually distance.
But what I was reminded of, aside from the
amazing teachers, absolutely fun classes and projects, and the beautiful
facility, was that being there, was about being with friends.
It wouldn’t have been the same if my friends
weren’t there with me, to bring the sugar free chocolates…to supply that last
little something needed for a project in class, and to say a warm good night,
when missing my loved ones at home.
Yep!
Friends. I’m a lucky girl to have them.

Riki, I can see what you described right here in this photo - just look at the smiles! Retreats and friends go together like birds of a feather. :-)

Riki, first, i loved your post. It brought back memories of art retreats that i've attended and how much my artist friends made the trips the success they all have been. And, like you, it kept my mind off of missing my family while away.
I can think of nothing worse than going to an art retreat and being alone the entire weekend. I've started off retreats like that if I go alone, but it doesn't take long, ever, for someone or a group of someones to ask me to join them. Artists are a great group!
And, we've met before. Not IRL, but through a swap, I think. Somehow. You don't live in the states, I remember that you live somewhere tropical and I remember enjoying you very much.
