many of us are familiar
with lori plyler’s ‘i heart macro’ feature on sundays at studio waterstone...
being an etsy artisan, taking photos of details is something one does all of
the time... but lori has a lot of us viewing our path in a way that leaves us
not wanting to miss anything...

i have numerous
exercises worked into my day to try to remain present... and this is now one of
them...
robin's nest (as evidenced by tiny pieces of egg found within) |
even as a child i would
stop for anything interesting... and rarely am i watching where i am going when
i walk... so even though i may have noticed things before, this exercise makes
me stop... to truly appreciate the moment...
‘there
are two ways to live:
you
can live as if nothing is a miracle;
you
can live as if everything is a miracle.’

i subscribe to the
latter...
how about you?

As a kid I always had my head down looking for anything interesting: fossils, interesting rocks, a pretty leaf, acorns, and of course money. Even as an adult I tend to slow down on walks and vacations in order to see an interesting texture or beautiful color combination. There's so many wonderful things to see when you're not face to face with a mobile phone, ipod, and the like.
I have always walked with my head down. I was always on the lookout for interesting bits, the way the sidewalk was cracked, leaves scattered in my path, ants scurrying. I now have to be mindful of looking up, to see the cloud formations or the way the branches frame the sky, the shape of a flock of ducks as they test their wings to make the big trek, to see the sun dapple the leaves just so. Miss Maire is the most present person I know. She is a delight. Thank you for sharing her with us!
Enjoy the day!

Mary Jane, I agree that Lori's Macro posts are a wonderful way to encourage us to slow down and see the beauty in the little things. There are so many wonderful things going on in blogland that foster a similar appreciation. My boys also help me to see every day beauty - when they thrust a rock or dandelion at me to see, it is the best reminder ever!
I once found a bag of dirt under my youngests bed and of course thought UGH! as I was trying to hustle it out of the house he caught me. I told him i had to throw it out. He frowned ....I asked him why he was keeping it and he told me he had seen something sparkle and had lost it and took all the dirt so he could "keep the sparkle". I felt awful I only saw dirt!
I love this! I have found more money than anyone I know, due to looking down more than up, as well as so many wonderful treasures. Every day is certainly a miracle, I couldn't agree more. Lovely MJ, Riki
