We had to
put our old marmalade kitty to sleep last Saturday. His name was Foster, and he was a crotchety
fussbudget of an “old man kitty”.
He
meowingly demanded his fresh water in the bowl on my bathroom floor…it had to
be FRESH.
He wanted to be petted even
when you needed to run out the door to work and really didn’t like the idea of
orange kitty fur on your black scrubs.
He begged for catnip at his scratching post.
He was a royal pain in the
you-know-where.
And I miss him.
How, you may
ask, does this rather sad kitty tale have any relevance in a “Grateful Living”
Blog? Well, I’m so grateful that we
opened our life to Foster and adopted him so long ago. I’m grateful for the lessons of patience and
gifts of love he generously bestowed. My husband and I would roll our eyes when
he began his morning routine of meowing his displeasure, but we grinned about
it too. We may have complained about
his copious shedding, but we enjoyed the feel of his soft fur on our hands.
I’m so very grateful for his quirks. And I knew I was needed, if only to fill his
food bowl.
Anyone who is needed by any
living thing knows this deep satisfaction, this deep knowledge that you are
important to someone, even if they are a crotchety fussbudget.
So I thank
you Foster, for being our kitty. We were
honored and blessed to be your servants.
You will be missed!
